Art and Design
In Key Stage 1, pupils develop essential skills through projects that focus on colour mixing, drawing, painting and simple creative techniques, often linked to familiar themes such as themselves, the natural world and the local community. As pupils progress into Key Stage 2, they extend their learning by exploring a broader range of art forms, historical periods and cultures, while developing more refined techniques in drawing, painting, printmaking, textiles and sculpture.
Projects are thoughtfully placed to create meaningful links with other curriculum areas, such as science and history, and are planned with consideration for seasonal opportunities and effective use of resources. In Upper Key Stage 2, pupils are encouraged to work with greater independence and creativity, exploring more conceptual and expressive outcomes and considering personal, environmental and cultural influences in their work. This approach ensures full coverage of the National Curriculum and supports high-quality, engaging art and design education at Woodloes Primary School.
