Attendance
At Woodloes Primary School, we recognise that every day counts in ensuring pupils achieve their best. We strive for our children to be in school every day so that they can make the most of all the learning opportunities provided to them.
Our target for every pupil throughout the academic year is to achieve 96% attendance; this equates to no more than 5 days off. The Government's national expectation also stands at 96%, which corresponds to a permissible absence of 7 days in the year. As a school, we are diligently working to eliminate gaps in our pupils' learning. We kindly remind parents to refrain from booking holidays during term time, as this significantly impacts a child's educational progress.
A pupil with attendance below 90% is classified as persistently absent, regardless of whether the absence has been authorised. It is crucial to note that a student taking unauthorised leave early in the academic year may be deemed persistently absent, even if their attendance is perfect thereafter.
There are 190 school days in each academic year and 160 non-school days. Every day, and indeed every minute, at school is essential for educational success. If you encounter difficulties getting your child to school, please arrange an appointment with Mrs Byrne to discuss how we can support your family in improving attendance.
